Excessive heat cancels Bix @ 6 training run

Excessive heat in the Quad Cities has canceled the Bix @ 6 training run scheduled for Thursday, July 2.

The National Weather Service said dangerously hot and humid conditions are expected during the scheduled time of tonight’s training run. Race organizers reviewed National Weather Service forecasts, consulted the event’s Race Medical Director and followed established heat-safety protocols recognized throughout the road running industry before deciding to cancel.

“It is with regret that we announce this cancellation,” said Race Director Michelle Juehring. “We never like to cancel an event. However, our first responsibility is always the health and safety of everyone involved—our runners, volunteers, staff, and spectators. We appreciate everyone’s understanding and look forward to seeing participants next week.”

Runners are encouraged to continue their training indoors or during the cooler morning hours and participate in the final Bix @ 6 training run on Thursday, July 9, at the corner of 5th Street and Pershing Avenue starting at 6 p.m. The Brady Street Sprint Trials, originally scheduled for tonight, have also been canceled. The final Sprint Trials will be held Thursday, July 9, at 7 p.m. at the same location.

Participants who register online today may pick up their complimentary Bix @ 6 t-shirt at next week’s training run by presenting their registration confirmation email. The Beat the Elite athletes are still scheduled to be announced tonight at 6 p.m. The 52nd Quad-City Times Bix 7 starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 25. Click here to register online.
