Shark bites swimmer at New York beach
By Dominique Jack,
27 days agoJONES BEACH, N.Y. (PIX11) – A popular Long Island beach was temporarily shut down after a swimmer was bitten by a shark on Friday, according to officials from the New York State Office of Parks.
The swimmer of unknown age was bitten on the right foot around 12 p.m. ET at Field 6 of Jones Beach State Park, a spokesperson for the state parks department said.
The person rushed to a nearby hospital but was expected to survive, officials reported.
Swimming was immediately suspended to search for any additional sharks in the water but has since reopened to the public.
The incident comes as dozens seek relief from triple-digit temperatures on the third day of the tri-state heat wave. Multiple shark sightings at Rockaway Beach in Queens for the second day in a row also forced closures for some sections of the area on Friday.

You know, when you hire a contractor, you have certain expectations. Maybe they’ll show up a little late. Maybe they’ll disappear for three days because they’re "waiting on materials." Maybe they'll spend half the day leaning against a truck discussing the weather with another guy who's also apparently on an extended coffee break.
