Coney Island Nathan’s hot dog competition: What to know

NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — The boardwalk will be buzzing this weekend as Fourth of July events take over Coney Island.

Dozens are expected to gather to see champions Joey Chestnut and Miki Sudo defend their titles in the annual Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest on Saturday.

Followed by the city’s most beloved eating contest, beachgoers can celebrate America’s 250th birthday with a dazzling display of fireworks over the Coney Island shoreline.

Below is everything to know about the day-long Fourth of July celebrations.

When is the Nathan’s hot dog eating competition?

The contest will kick off on Saturday at 11 a.m. ET with the women’s competition, followed by the men’s competition at 12:30 p.m. ET

Where is the hot dog eating competition?

Those wanting to see it in person can visit the Original Nathan’s Famous location at 1310 Surf Ave. in Brooklyn.

Where can I watch the hot dog eating competition?

ESPN will broadcast the event beginning at 10:45 a.m. ET on the app, with a simulcast of the men’s competition on ABC at 12:30 p.m. ET

How many hot dogs did Joey Chestnut and Miki Sudo eat last year?

Chestnut reclaimed his spot as champion with 70 1/2 hot dogs in 10 minutes last year after he took a break from the contest in 2024.

Sudo maintained her spot at No. 1 with 33 hot dogs in 10 minutes.

For years, boiling corn on the cob meant watching a pot, timing it just right, and still ending up with kernels that were sometimes tough and sometimes mushy. Switching to a slow cooker milk bath solved that problem completely. The corn comes out tender and sweet every time, and the stove stays free for everything else on the menu.
