Behind the scenes look at the CBS production of the John Deere Classic

Golf fans who can’t make it out to the John Deere Classic in person might decide to watch in their home or at a bar. The broadcasts are available on CBS or The Golf Channel. What many don’t see is the production it takes to put the final product on the screen live. CBS had around 75 people on their crew during the tournament, all committed to putting the best quality of broadcast golf on the screen.

“Basically, it’s organized chaos,” said Jim Rikhoff, a CBS Sports producer. “It’s like having 18 little venues, so that’s always a challenge. When you go to commercial, the players keep on playing. So, it’s like being an air traffic controller.”
