City of Burlington breaks ground on new fire station
By Gavin Waidelich,
17 hours agoShovels hit the dirt to celebrate the start of construction for a new fire station in Burlington.
The station will cost $6.9 million. Voters approved a $7 million budget in a ballot referendum three years ago. City leaders spent more than 30 years trying to build a station on the northwest side of the city. Firefighters have been stationed in a small factory building in that section since 2017.
“We’re so thankful for our firefighters and first responders and paramedics for living in those types of quarters for so many years,” said Nathan Toops, Burlington’s fire chief. “We’re also thankful for the partners in our community that have allowed us to be in those but this will be a real station. This will be one were it comes with all the modern day technology and needs of a fire station.”
The fire chief hopes the work will be finished by next fall.

Contractor Took $40,000 for Home Repairs... Then Allegedly Built a Baseball Card Collection Instead!
You know, when you hire a contractor, you have certain expectations. Maybe they’ll show up a little late. Maybe they’ll disappear for three days because they’re "waiting on materials." Maybe they'll spend half the day leaning against a truck discussing the weather with another guy who's also apparently on an extended coffee break.

From Hoarding Survivor to Heart-Stealer: Local Rescue Wonders Why Sweet Little Joey is Still Waiting
Shultz’s Guest House, a 501c3 dog rescue shelter in Dedham, Massachusetts, is asking the community to take a fresh look at Joey, a small senior dog who, despite a bright spirit and a big heart for people, is still waiting for the home everyone assumed would come quickly. The rescue recently shared Joey’s story: “Joey wants to remind you that age is just a number. Even though he’s well into his golden years, Joey isn’t slowing down.” After surviving “a hoarding situation and finally getting the fresh start he deserved,” Joey has thrown himself into what matters most to him now, connection, spending his days “hopping from one lap to the next” as if to make up for lost time.
