Illinois bill targets predatory tow trucking

Predatory tow trucking businesses in Illinois could face tougher punishments under a bill sent to Governor JB Pritzker.

House Bill 4843 expands Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias’ authority to suspend or revoke certificates and special registration plates issued to tow truck and wrecker operators who fraudulently obtain registrations, illegally use tow truck plates or violate vehicle registration laws.
Chicago alderman Gilbert Villegas spearheaded ordinances that crack down on rogue towing operations. The legislation would take effect immediately if the governor signs it into law.
