On scene, officers found a pickup truck that had traveled through a yard, struck and damaged a chain-link fence, crossed a basketball court and crashed through the exterior walls of a detached outbuilding. Another 12,255 cases have not yet been laboratory-confirmed or fully investigated.</p><p>Should they be confirmed, the U.S. tally would rise to more than 22,700. </p><div style="position:relative;width:100%; height:0; padding-bottom: 56.25%;"><iframe src="https://www.ourquadcities.com/nxs-video/vid-anvato-11971428/embed/?post_id=3112198&amp;injected_via=feed&amp;autoplay=false&amp;preroll=true&amp;autoplay=0" allowfullscreen="true" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" sandbox="allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox" style="width:100%; height:100%;top:0; left:0; position:absolute"></iframe></div><p>The U.S. this week also saw what appear to be <a href="https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/6008551-why-cyclospora-can-be-deadly-for-some-people/" rel="nofollow">its first deaths related to the ongoing outbreak</a>. Two patients in Michigan died after becoming ill prior to the lettuce recall, though state health officials warned that “both individuals had significant underlying health conditions.”</p><p>Michigan, where more than 12,200 cases have been reported as of Wednesday, remains the state that has been hardest hit by the outbreak.</p><p>It’s one of nine states that have been linked to the federal cyclosporiasis outbreak investigation, along with Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.</p><p>Another six states may soon be formally added to the list. Individuals familiar with the investigation told <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/cyclospora-outbreak-cyclosporiasis-spread-states-cdc-rcna590836" rel="nofollow">NBC News</a> and <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2026/08/04/cdc-expands-largest-known-cyclospora-outbreak-15-states/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">The Washington Post</a> that Arkansas, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire and North Carolina are being linked to the outbreak. </p><p>The CDC and the Food and Drug Administration did not immediately respond to Nexstar’s request for comment regarding these states.</p><p>As of Wednesday, Missouri alone has reported 1,095 cases so far this year. That’s up from just under 600 in late July, tracking by Nexstar shows. North Carolina has recorded over 860 cases since May.</p><p>A review of CDC and state health data, as well as local reporting, shows that every state has reported at least one case of cyclosporiasis this year. However, not all are linked to <a href="https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/5985697-another-cyclospora-outbreak-not-linked-to-lettuce-under-investigation-fda/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">ongoing outbreak investigations</a>.</p><iframe title="Cases of Cyclospora by State" id="datawrapper-chart-RdKwW" src="https://datawrapper.dwcdn.net/RdKwW/17/" height="566"></iframe><p>Only three states — Delaware, Hawaii, and Montana — have not reported any laboratory-confirmed cases of cyclosporiasis linked to the CDC’s ongoing investigation.</p><p>Health officials in those states have, however, have reported possible cases. Delaware reported <a href="https://baytobaynews.com/milford-harrington/stories/delaware-reports-one-case-of-cyclosporiasis-so-far,333021" rel="nofollow">a case</a> in mid-July, while at least two have been reported in Montana. Four cases have been reported in Hawaii: a non-resident who became infected outside the state, two residents who traveled internationally, and a member of the military based in the state.</p><p>The <a href="https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/5967777-why-cyclosporiasis-cases-are-likely-way-underreported/" rel="nofollow">true number of people who have been infected</a> by the cyclospora parasite this year may be higher than the aforementioned tallies suggest. Not everyone who becomes infected experiences <a href="https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/5980293-what-exactly-is-explosive-diarrhea/" rel="nofollow">symptoms</a>, requires hospitalization or undergoes testing to confirm their diagnoses.</p><p>If you are <a href="https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/5961707-you-got-the-explosive-diarrhea-parasite-now-what/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">experiencing symptoms</a>, especially diarrhea that lasts more than a week or two, health care experts encourage you to seek medical care.</p><p>Left untreated, cyclosporiasis can stick around for a month or longer.&nbsp;Treatment can include antibiotics, antidiarrheal medications and hydration, according to the Cleveland Clinic.</p><div style="position:relative;width:100%; height:0; padding-bottom: 56.25%;"><iframe src="https://www.ourquadcities.com/nxs-video/vid-anvato-11967041/embed/?post_id=3112198&amp;injected_via=feed&amp;autoplay=false&amp;preroll=true&amp;autoplay=0" allowfullscreen="true" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" sandbox="allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox" style="width:100%; height:100%;top:0; left:0; position:absolute"></iframe></div><i>Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc. Tysen Duva, the assistant attorney general of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, revealed the names of the five CJNG cartel leaders included in the indictments and described the allegations against them:</p><ul class="wp-block-list"><li><strong>Julio Castillo Rodríguez</strong> is the son-in-law of “El Mencho,” accused of trafficking drugs into the U.S. and controlling the cartel’s territories using “force and violence.”</li><li><strong>Hugo Mendoza Gaytán</strong> is the godson of “El Mencho,” accused of trafficking drugs, procuring weapons, training hitmen and overseeing operations. </li><li><strong>Ricardo Ruiz Velasco</strong> is accused of overseeing cartel operations in numerous Mexican territories and trafficking drugs. </li><li><strong>Julio Montero Pinzón</strong> and <strong>Carlos Rivera Varela</strong> are accused of founding and leading CJNG’s “Grupo Elite,” a group of armed hitmen who trafficked drugs and “controlled communities and government officials alike with violence.” They are also charged with separate indictments related to a <a href="https://www.newsnationnow.com/us-news/immigration/border-coverage/treasury-sanctions-mexican-timeshare-cartel/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">fake timeshare scheme</a>.</li></ul><h2 class="wp-block-heading">Cartel’s fake timeshare scheme ‘duped our seniors’: Patel</h2><p><a href="https://www.newsnationnow.com/us-news/southwest/sheriff-kash-patel-inaccurate-claims-nancy-guthrie-case/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">FBI Director Kash Patel</a> said three people are being elevated to the FBI’s “most wanted” status in connection with a fake timeshare scheme allegedly run by the CJNG. He said the scheme has scammed American seniors out of more than $400 million.</p><a href="https://www.newsnationnow.com/us-news/immigration/border-coverage/cartels/cartel-el-mayo-sentenced/" class="promo-link__link" target="&quot;_blank&quot;" rel="nofollow"> ‘Prolific’ Sinaloa Cartel boss ‘El Mayo’ sentenced to life in prison </a><p>“They duped our seniors, using email, telephone, text message and phishing campaigns into subscribing to a timeshare project,” Patel added. “They falsely delivered promises that our seniors would be able to enjoy their lives and their vacations, only to have that money seized from them.”</p><p>In February, the&nbsp;U.S. <a href="https://home.treasury.gov/news/press-releases/sb0400" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">Treasury announced</a> sanctions on Mexican timeshare resort Kovay Gardens, along with five people and 17 companies associated with the purported cartel-run fraud network.</p><h2 class="wp-block-heading">State Department offering $100M reward for info on cartel members</h2><p>The State Department is also “imposing visa restrictions on 65 individuals who are family members or close associates to persons linked to CJNG,” Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Ambassador Michael C. The pre…" rel="nofollow">The Hill</a>) The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating a Tuesday afternoon incident involving <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/5883247-trump-marine-one-helipad-white-house-reports/" rel="nofollow">Marine One</a>, the helicopter reserved for President Trump’s expedited travel in the beltway. </p><p>The president was flying out from the White House on Tuesday afternoon under normal conditions, but air traffic controllers at nearby Washington Reagan National Airport had not yet halted commercial flights — as is protocol for Marine One departures, the <a href="https://www.wsj.com/politics/national-security/faa-investigates-marine-one-safety-incident-in-washington-e95d6ed2" rel="nofollow">Wall Street Journal first reported</a>.</p><p>As a result, another jet departed around the same time as Trump in a loss of standard separation, an FAA protocol that keeps aircrafts a safe distance apart. </p><p>Although the jet did not come close to a collision with Marine One, investigators are reviewing the incident. </p><p>Federal regulations require that aircrafts maintain a distance of 1.5 miles horizontally and 500 feet vertically for safe travel. </p><p>In an effort to further protect passengers on aircrafts departing Reagan National, the FAA has issued guidelines that require commercial traffic to halt during jet fly overs. </p><p>The guideline was issued as a result of a <a href="https://thehill.com/news-by-subject/transportation-infrastructure/5654098-us-admits-fault-helicopter-crash/" rel="nofollow">deadly mid-air collision</a> between an American Airlines passenger plane and an Army Black Hawk helicopter in January 2025. </p><p>“Marine One flights are piloted by some of the best aviators in the world, and at no point was the President in harm’s way,” White House spokesperson Kush Desai told the Journal after Tuesday’s incident.</p><p>The FAA did not immediately respond to The Hill’s request for comment. </p><div style="position:relative;width:100%; height:0; padding-bottom: 56.25%;"><iframe src="https://www.ourquadcities.com/nxs-video/vid-anvato-12037841/embed/?post_id=3112243&amp;injected_via=feed&amp;autoplay=false&amp;preroll=true&amp;autoplay=0" allowfullscreen="true" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" sandbox="allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox" style="width:100%; height:100%;top:0; left:0; position:absolute"></iframe></div><i>Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
