Learn about obesity at Dr. V.R. Alla Community Symposium
By Sharon Wren,
1 days agoObesity affects millions of Americans and is recognized as a chronic disease that can contribute to serious health conditions like heart disease, diabetes and sleep issues. Trinity Health Foundation is hosting the 18th annual Dr. V.R. Alla Community Symposium on Tuesday, Sept. 22 from 5:30 – 7 p.m. at Bally’s Quad Cities Casino & Hotel, 777 Bally Blvd. in Rock Island.
V.R. Alla, MD, a retired physician and kidney specialist, will present “Obesity: What You Need to Know” at the Symposium. Topics that will be covered include:
- Understanding obesity and its impact on health
- Causes and contributing factors, including genetics, environment and lifestyle
- Treatment options ranging from nutrition and physical activity to surgery and current widely discussed medications
- Health risks associated with obesity, including heart disease, diabetes and sleep apnea
Registration is available online or by phone at (309) 779-2488. Attendees must register by Thursday, Sept. 17 and attendance is limited to the first 200 guests.
The free event is open to the public, courtesy of contributions by Dr. Alla and his family to Trinity Health Foundation. Local health experts will share information on diabetes education and heart health and will offer complimentary blood pressure screenings before the presentation. Heart-healthy appetizers will also be served.
“Obesity is a chronic medical condition that deserves the same attention and understanding as other long-term health concerns,” said Dr. Alla. “When people understand the risks, the science and the treatment options available today, they are better equipped to make informed decisions and take meaningful steps toward improving their health and quality of life.”
