Inspection of I-280 bridge leads to lane closures

A routine inspection means lanes on the I-280 Mississippi River bridge near Rock Island will close.

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the right lane on the westbound Interstate 280 Mississippi River bridge near Rock Island will be closed from Monday, Aug. 10 through Wednesday, Aug. 12, for a routine bridge inspection, weather permitting. The closure will then move to the eastbound span on Aug. 12 through Friday, Aug. 14, to complete the inspection.

Signing will be used to maintain traffic during the project, which is scheduled to be completed by 3 p.m. on Aug. 14

Drivers can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Using alternate routes should be considered, if possible. Drivers are asked to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey posted speed limits, avoid using mobile devices and watch for workers and equipment.
