Celebrate Atkinson’s 170th anniversary at Heritage Days

Celebrate Atkinson’s 170^th anniversary with a classic Midwestern community festival.

Atkinson Heritage Days will be held on Friday August 21 and Saturday August 22 in Atkinson, Illinois. This year’s event marks 170 years of Atkinson and honors America’s 250th birthday.

Festival organizers have expanded every part of the weekend, with more attractions, more vendors, live entertainment and interactive experiences to Veterans Park, N. Church Street, and the surrounding area. A free shuttle service from the Atkinson Elementary School to Veterans Park by SonRise Bible Church will take visitors to the heart of the fun.

The event includes sidewalk painting, a petting zoo, children’s games and a chainsaw carving demonstration. Local competitions include pie baking, floral design, Rolle Bolle and a bags tournament, as well as an expanded food truck and over 40 small business vendors for the Craft Fair at Veterans Park on Saturday, a festival record.

Fireworks kick off the weekend on Friday night and Atkinson’s annual parade returns with community floats, musical performances and more on Saturday at 1 p.m. Live music featuring regional musical acts will be performed throughout the weekend, ending with the Atkinson Heritage Days Street Dance on Saturday night.

“We set out to make 2026 the largest and most memorable Atkinson Heritage Days to date,” said Dawn Stage, Atkinson Community Festivals Chair. “With Atkinson celebrating 170 years alongside our nation’s 250th birthday, we wanted to raise the bar across the board this year. From the music to the food, from the shuttle convenience for parking and lots of family fun planned, Atkinson Heritage Days is truly bigger and better than ever.”
