Coach Ken Carter will speak at Moline High School

The Moline-Coal Valley School District will welcome renowned educator, author and motivational speaker Coach Ken Carter for a back-to-school event to kick off the 2026-27 school
year, according to a news release.
Known for the inspiring true story depicted in the 2005 film “Coach Carter,” with Samuel L. Jackson in the title role, Carter will share messages focused on academic excellence, attendance, accountability, self-discipline, respect and the power of education to overcome barriers.
His presentation will be 7-7:45 p.m. Wednesday Aug. 12 at the Bartlett Performing Arts Center at Moline High School, 3600 Avenue of the Cities, Moline. Students, athletes, families, coaches, and community members are welcome.
Topics will include:
- The importance of attending school every day
- Putting academics first
- Using education to break down barriers
- Accountability and self-discipline
- Unity and respect.
On Thursday, Aug. 13, Carter will serve as a featured speaker during the district’s all-staff
back-to-school in-service, sharing insights on leadership, student success, relationship-building and creating a culture of high expectations and support for all learners. That event is reserved for district educators and staff only.

The 1994 unsolved disappearance of infant Kelsi Krum and her mother in Arcadia, Florida
Kelsi Jordan Krum has been missing from Arcadia, Florida (DeSoto County), since August 11, 1994, according to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). Her mother, Kelli Jo Krum (pictured below), also disappeared. Kelsi would now be 32 years old, and her mother would be 53.
