It’s Iowa vs. Illinois at Tug Fest!

Gear up for one of the most unique summer festivals in the country as LeClaire and Port Byron compete for the win at the 39th annual Tug Fest!

According to a release from Tug Fest Iowa, the festival’s theme is Greatest Pull on Earth.

Tug Fest’s crown jewel is a one-of-a-kind Tug-of-War between Iowa and Illinois—the only event in the nation to close the Mississippi River for a competition. On Saturday, August 15 from 11:30 a.m. – 3 p.m., a 2,700-foot, 680-pound rope will stretch across the river as 11 teams from each state battle to pull the most feet of rope within 3 minutes. The winning side claims the coveted Alabaster Eagle trophy—and year-long bragging rights.

August 13-15, 2026. This three-day celebration blends small-town charm with big-time fun—including carnival rides, live entertainment, a grand parade, fireworks, and the only inter-state Tug-of-War competition over the Mississippi River.

• Thursday, August 13 – Family Night – Live entertainment by Press Record – Bags tournament
• Friday, August 14 – Grand Parade at 6:00 p.m. – Fireworks spectacular at 9:30 p.m. – Live music by Dirt Road Rockers at 8:00 p.m.
• Saturday, August 15 – Tug Day – Tug across the Mississippi at noon – Children’s tug at 3:30 p.m. – Bags Tournament at 4:30 p.m. – Live performances by Mommy’s Little Monster at 5:00 p.m., Breakfast Club at 8:45 p.m.
