Illinois bill keeps rural ambulance services staffed and on-call

Policies to keep rural ambulance services staffed and on-call to help save lives have been signed into law in Illinois.

House Bill 5446 provides flexibility to rural ambulance services to meet legally mandated staffing requirements, improve response time, and get patients to the hospital even faster
the legislation also updates staffing requirements to ensure ambulance crews can remain in service.

A widening food recall connected to a multistate Salmonella outbreak now covers dips, salsas, guacamole and prepared meals sold by some of America's largest grocery chains. Taylor Fresh Foods announced the voluntary recall on Aug. 9 after learning that jalapeno supplier Coast Citrus Distributors was recalling peppers because of possible Salmonella contamination. The affected jalapenos came from a grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, identified as the likely source of an ongoing outbreak.

The Harm Reduction Action Center announced in its July newsletter Monday that it now offers on-site, rapid drug testing so drug users know exactly what they’re ingesting.
