QCA school board terminates principal’s contract

9 hours agoAccording to a statement from a spokesperson for the Rock Island-Milan School District, the principal of a school was terminated Tuesday at a school board meeting.
The Board of Education approved the superintendent’s recommendation to immediately terminate the contract and to discharge Mario Sherrell from employment “due to his job abandonment and insubordination,” the spokesperson told Our Quad Cities News.
Sherrell was the principal of the Thurgood Marshall Learning Center.
According to the district website, Sherrell was appointed interim principal of Thurgood Marshall Learning Center at the Jan. 27, 2026, Board of Education meeting.
He brought 14 years of educational leadership experience, having served as a superintendent, executive director, principal, and assistant principal. He earned a bachelor of arts in chemistry and a master of science in educational leadership. He had successfully led in alternative-education settings with advanced training in trauma-informed practices.
No other information was available Wednesday.
