Illinois DOT hiring snow and ice removal crews
By Sharon Wren,
6 hours agoIt may still be summer, but the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) District 2 is looking for snow and ice removal crews.
IDOT is holding an open house for anyone interested in applying for seasonal positions to help with snow and ice removal in Rock Island and Henry counties. The open house will be on August 19 from 3:30 – 6 p.m. at the Milan Maintenance Yard, 4128 69th Avenue.
Attendees can speak with IDOT staff to learn more about the program and get help with applying, which must be completed online. Find open positions by typing the county of preference into the search bar. Applications for Winter Salaried Highway Maintainers (Monthly Snowbirds) must be submitted online by Friday, Aug. 21. Call District 2 Administrative Manager Brad Sibley at 815-284-5311 with questions or for more information.
The department is hiring full-time and hourly Winter Highway Maintainers to help maintain more than 45,000 lane miles statewide during the winter. They are required to promptly respond to emerging weather situations for snow and ice removal and be ready to work in emergency conditions at any time, including nights, weekends and holidays. The starting salary for full-time employees is $6,255 per month, and hourlies are paid $27.79 an hour.
Applicants must have a commercial driver’s license (CDL), undergo a criminal background check and have a pre-employment physical and vision test and drug and alcohol screening. A new law gives veterans preference for these seasonal positions and they are encouraged to apply. Applicants will be selected based on availability, job-related experience and qualifications.
