Post-war German films come to big screen at The Last Picture House, Davenport

The German American Heritage Center and The Last Picture House, Davenport, will bring "The Lost Years of German Cinema," a series of post-war German films to the big screen this fall, a news release says.

Discover the tension, humor, and human drama of a nation rebuilding in the film series on postwar German cinema.

Spanning the late 1940s through the early 1960s, these films capture a Germany grappling with defeat, division, and identity through noir intrigue, sharp satire, and deeply personal stories. From the shadowy streets of "The Third Man" to the biting wit of "One, Two, Three," each screening offers a vivid window into a transformative moment in history.

Stay after each film for an optional discussion session about the films and actors that will be shown at 6 p.m. Wednesdays:

• Sept. 2 - THE THIRD MAN (1949) Post-film discussion with Dr. Matthew Coomber.
• Sept. 9 - FOREIGN AFFAIR (1948) Post-film discussion with Linda Cook, Our Quad Cities News.
• Sept. 16 - GERMANY, YEAR ZERO (1948) Post-film discussion with Stacy Barton.
• Sept. 23 - ONE TWO THREE (1961) Post-film discussion with Dr. William Hampes.
• Sept. 30 - THE LOST ONE (1951) Post-film discussion with Dr. Lisa Seidlitz.

Guests will choose their seats upon arrival. Make sure to check in at the GAHC+M table in the lobby. Proceeds from ticket sales will go to the German American Heritage Center and Museum's programming.

Admission is $15 per film, with a five-film package for $60. Admission for museum members and the LPH Autograph Club is $12 per film and $50 for the five-film package. Tickets are available here.

Street parking is limited. Early arrival is recommended, or visitors can park in the RiverCenter parking ramp at 102 E 2nd St., Davenport.
