Riverside Horseshoe Club will host Illinois horseshoe tournament in Moline

The Riverside Horseshoe Club will host the 2026 Illinois State Horseshoe Tournament for the third time at Riverside Park in Moline over Labor Day Weekend, Sept. 4-6, a news release says.

Horseshoe pitchers from across Illinois will compete for state championships in the Cadet, Junior, Elder Men, Elder Women, Women, and Men divisions, with classes determined by ringer percentage. The competition begins with doubles on Friday evening, followed by individual class competition on Saturday and championship rounds on Sunday afternoon.

Defending State Champion Austin Bailey of Springfield enters the tournament with a 73% ringer average, a runner-up finish at the 2025 World Tournament, and a recent fifth-place finish in the 2026 World Tournament.

“The 2026 State Horseshoe Tournament is a tremendous opportunity to welcome competitors, families, and fans from across Illinois while showcasing the Quad Cities,” said Joan Kranovich, vice president of business growth and director, Sports QC. “We’re proud to partner with the Riverside Horseshoe Club to bring this championship to our region, supporting a longtime tradition in the sport while creating a great experience for both participants and spectators.”

The public is encouraged to attend and enjoy the free competition throughout the weekend. Food will be available on-site from Agrow's House food truck. Spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for guaranteed seating.

"Hosting the 2026 State Tournament is an exciting honor for our club and community," said David Anderson, tournament director, Riverside Horseshoe Club. "Moline has a deep history in the sport of horseshoe pitching, including hosting The World Tournament, a major national competition here in 1935. We're proud to continue that legacy by welcoming competitors from across Illinois and by giving them an unforgettable experience that showcases our community."

The Riverside Horseshoe Club has 24-clay courts and is considered one of the most notable pitching facilities in the state, with mixed leagues that begin in early May. Leagues occur on Monday evenings and Tuesday mornings, May through August. The fall league runs Monday evenings, September through October. The Riverside Horseshoe Club is sanctioned by the Illinois State Horseshoe Pitchers Association, a charter of the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association. For more information, visit here.
