Scott County Conservation is closing Park Terrace Campground at West Lake Park starting Monday, September 7, for a major campground reconstruction project.

The campground will be closed for the remainder of the 2026 camping season and into spring 2027 while contractors complete improvements, including new campground roads, improved concrete camping pads and other site improvements.

“This is a major project for West Lake Park, and we appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to reconstruct Park Terrace Campground,” said Scott County Conservation Deputy Director Nathan Unsworth. “Park Terrace welcomes more campers than any other campground in our system, and we are excited about what this project will mean for those visitors. We look forward to campers returning next year and enjoying an improved camping experience.”

The exact reopening date depends on construction progress and spring weather conditions. Scott County Conservation expects to reopen Park Terrace Campground around Memorial Day 2027.

Summit Campground at West Lake Park will stay open for much of the fall but will temporarily close for a few days during road construction at Gate 1. Closure dates depend on the construction schedule and will be announced separately. Buffalo Shores Campground and campgrounds at Scott County Park will remain open this fall. Visitors can check Scott County Conservation’s Facebook page for the latest campground and construction updates. Campers can call the campground office at 563-328-3281 with questions on camping at West Lake and Buffalo Shores this fall.
