The 27th Street bridge over Interstate 74 will close starting Wednesday, September 9 for construction as part of the City of Moline’s ongoing 19th/27th Street bike path project.

The phase of the project will modify the existing bridge to accommodate a new 10-foot-wide bike path over I-74. Work during this part of the project will include:

  • Narrowing the vehicle travel lane
  • Constructing a new 10-foot-wide bike path across the bridge
  • Installing a protective concrete barrier between the bike path and vehicle traffic
  • Connecting the existing 19th Street path with the 27th Street path

The work is part of a larger $5.1 million project to install a shared-use path along the 19th Street/27th Street corridor between Avenue of the Cities and 36th Avenue (Coaltown Road). The project includes retaining walls, traffic signal replacements and other improvements along the corridor.

This project is the second phase of a multi-phase effort that will create a continuous bike route through Moline, connecting the Mississippi River to the Rock River. Drivers should use alternate routes while the bridge is closed. More information about the construction schedule and reopening will be announced as work progresses.
