QC Deckmate prep classes scheduled for upcoming tryouts

The Quad City Deckmates have announced the inaugural QC Deckmate Prep Classes, giving aspiring dancers an opportunity to prepare for upcoming Deckmate tryouts while gaining an inside look at what it takes to be part of the team.

The Quad City Deckmates are the official dance team of the Quad City Steamwheelers, entertaining fans throughout the season at Vibrant Arena while representing the organization throughout the Quad Cities community.

The three prep classes will be held at Vibrant Arena in the Conference Room on Sunday, September 20; Sunday, October 18; and Sunday, November 15, with each class running from 1-3 p.m.

The Deckmate Prep Classes are designed to provide participants with a preview of the official tryout experience. Each session will feature different choreography and dance styles similar to what candidates may encounter during the actual tryout process.

In addition to learning choreography, the classes will give prospective Deckmates the opportunity to interact with the Deckmate coaching staff and learn more about the team, its expectations and what it means to represent the Quad City Steamwheelers throughout the season.

"We want these prep classes to be about more than simply learning a dance," said a Quad City staff member. "They are an opportunity for dancers to get comfortable with the tryout environment, get to know our coaching staff, ask questions, and learn what being a Deckmate is really all about. At the same time, it gives our coach an opportunity to get to know the dancers on a deeper level before official tryouts."

Participants will have the opportunity to:

• Learn multiple choreography routines and dance styles
• Experience elements of the official Deckmate tryout process
• Meet and interact with the Deckmate coaching staff
• Learn more about the expectations and responsibilities of a Deckmate
• Gain insight into how the Deckmates operate throughout the season
• Build confidence and prepare for official tryouts
• Become familiar with the Deckmate environment and coaching staff.

Dancers may register for individual prep classes for $25 per class or register for all three classes for a discounted rate of $60, saving $15.

While the prep classes are not the official Deckmate tryouts, they are designed to closely mirror elements of the tryout experience and provide dancers with valuable preparation ahead of official tryouts.

The QC Deckmates welcome dancers of all experience levels, ages 18 and older, who are interested in learning more about the team and preparing for their opportunity to become a Quad City Deckmate.
