Davenport Police Department releases name of officer involved in shooting

11 days agoThe name of the Davenport police officer involved in an Aug. 31 shooting has been released by the Davenport Police Department.
According to the news release, Officer Matthew Lovelady has cooperated and has been interviewed by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI.) The officer has 16 years of law enforcement experience, which included assignments in NETS and as a school resource officer (SRO).
Lovelady remains on leave pending the outcome of the investigation. No additional information will be released at this time.
A shooting on Aug. 31 in Davenport
One person was taken to a hospital Aug. 31 after being shot by a police officer on the 3700 block of Rockingham Road, Davenport, according to a news release from the Davenport Police Department.
Davenport police and Scott County deputies responded to a report of an armed person. They saw other people with a suspect when they arrived, “heightening concerns for the safety of those involved,” the release says.
During the investigation, a uniformed Davenport police officer shot at the armed suspect. Afterward, officers and deputies provided first aid and called for emergency medical services.
The injured person was transported to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries. No officers were injured. “There is no ongoing threat to the general public,” a news release said.
