12-year-old arrested for making threats to East Moline school

A 12-year-old was arrested Wednesday for making threats to a middle school in East Moline, according to a news release.
On Sept. 3, East Moline police were notified about a social-media threat referring to “violence” at Glenview Middle School, 3100 7th St., East Moline, received through the social media application Tik Tok.
The threat implied there would be “violence” at Glenview Middle School on Sept. 10, and did not elaborate further. The East Moline Police Department, in conjunction with the administration at Glenview Middle School, immediately began an investigation into this threat.
Through an intensive and thorough investigation into this threat, a 12-year-old boy, a Glenview student, was identified as making the threat through his Tik Tok social media account.
The investigation consisted of a search warrant at the juvenile’s residence, subpoenas for social-media records, and "other investigative measures," according to the release, which says "It is not believed at this time that the juvenile had the intent or means to act on the threat."
On Wednesday, the boy was arrested at the East Moline Police Department for disorderly conduct – threat of violence/school (Class 4 Felony). Rock Island County Juvenile Intake screened the boy and released him to a parent on home detention with a GPS monitor pending juvenile court proceedings.
The Rock Island County States Attorney Office - Juvenile Division will review the case prior to formal criminal charges being filed. East Moline School District 37 administrators are separately addressing student discipline and threat-assessment procedures.
The investigation into this incident continues. Police say that anyone with any further information can contact the East Moline Police Department at 309-752-1555, Crime Stoppers of the Quad Cities at 309-762-9500, or submit an anonymous tip via the “P3 Tips” mobile app.
