Federal judge rejects blocking Illinois’ end-of-life law
By Brian Weckerly,
8 days agoA federal judge rejected a request to block Illinois' medically-assisted end-of-life law.
The End-of-Life Options for Terminally Ill Patients Act (Deb's Law) is set to officially take effect September 12. Disability rights advocates wanted to delay the law from taking effect. Opponents argue the law doesn't provide enough protection for people with disabilities. Illinois claimed the group didn't have legal standing to file the case and can't prove any legal harm.
The law allows terminally ill adults with six months to live to get medical assistance to die as long as they're competent. Two doctors need to confirm the diagnosis, and a mental health evaluation can also be ordered.

Not a single application, phone call, nothing. What? How? WHY?” The shelter describes Mandy as an affectionate “velcro pup” who “will glue herself to you and never leave,” adding that while she enjoys walks “at a brisk dawdle,” she’d “much rather be in your lap or curled up next to you, as long as she’s touching you somehow.”
