Cook review: ‘Generation 9/11’ examines how ripples from the attacks continue

We need to remember and we need to teach the coming generations not to forget.

"Turning Point," a Netflix documentary series directed by Brian Knappenberger, focuses on geopolitical events and their global effects that continue to ripple out from them. The "Generation 9/11" segment is especially poignant because so many survivors discuss their losses.

The theme is that the world is the way it is as a result of the politics, deaths and fears from 25 years ago. It's a heartbreaking tribute to those who lost their lives, survivors, and their children.

I didn't make it through the first 15 minutes of the film without bursting into tears. The viewer is right there before the towers come down, as pedestrians watch slack-jawed as fire erupts from the buildings, as firefighters prepare to embark on a perilous mission, as people begin to run during the collapse.

I'm not certain that mere words can convey the heartbreaking images contained in this film. You'll see people who tried to survive and ultimately didn't make it. Another sequence shows people arguing ... until one saves the other's life.

Others remember the noises, the chaos, and sight of the collapse. Others remember the last words of their loved ones - moments before death - who called family members to say "I love you" one last time.

And then we see guns, military force and war ... the invasion of Afghanistan and eventually the fall of Kabul ... and the use of phrases like "the war on terror" became part of the and how that led to the politics of 2026.

It is more than a glimpse of history. It's a look at human behavior - the resilience and frailty of the human condition. This film deserves to be seen as much as Sept. 11 deserves to be remembered..
