Jeni Grouws Band brings blues, soul, roots to Cambridge concert

Acclaimed singer-songwriter Jeni Grouws will bring her powerful blend of blues, soul and roots rock to Ca d’Zan House Concerts in Cambridge on Friday, Sept. 18. Presented by Crossroads Cultural Connections, the all-ages concert will begin at 7 p.m., after an optional community potluck dinner at 6 p.m. Bishop Hill Creative Commons will serve as the rain location.

Attendees should bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating. A donation of $20 to $30 is suggested, and music lovers of all ages are welcome.

Known for her commanding vocals, heartfelt songwriting and magnetic stage presence, Grouws has spent nearly a decade fronting the Billboard-charting Avey Grouws Band. She is now entering an exciting new chapter with the Jeni Grouws Band and the release of her debut solo album, "Music House," on Sept. 4, just two weeks before her Cambridge appearance.

Blending blues, soul and roots rock, Grouws creates an American roots sound that is both powerful and deeply personal. "Music House" features songs written entirely by Grouws and was recorded at Purple House in Nashville with Grammy-winning producer Casey Wasner, whose credits include Keb’ Mo’, TajMo and Robben Ford.

The album brings together an impressive group of musicians, including Brian Allen, Mike Hicks and Johnny Duke, along with special guests Drew Smithers of the Marcus King Band, Emmanuel Echem of the Tedeschi Trucks Band, Roy Agee, Evan Cobb, Matt Fuller, Nick Vasquez, David Abdo, Kyshona and Anne Harris.

Grouws has earned enthusiastic praise for both her singing and songwriting. "Rock and Blues Muse" wrote “It’s been a while since a vocalist gave me the chills. Grouws digs deep and you can’t turn away. She’s a belter with deep-rooted soul.”

"Goldmine" has called Grouws “a remarkably demonstrative vocalist,” equally capable of delivering hard-driving rock, blues and tender ballads. Her ability to combine that vocal power with relatable songwriting and genuine warmth has made her an especially compelling live performer.

With "Music House," Grouws steps forward as a solo artist with a collection of songs reflecting her own voice and vision. Audiences in Cambridge will have an opportunity to hear that new music almost immediately following the album’s release.

In the event of rain, the concert will move to Bishop Hill Creative Commons.

Presented by Crossroads Cultural Connections, this concert continues the organization’s mission of bringing meaningful, high-quality live music experiences to Henry County and surrounding communities.
