New K-9 officer for Rock Island Police Department

The Rock Island Police Department has a new K-9 officer.
A post on the department’s Facebook page says the new K-9, Dex, is a one year old Belgian Malinois from Cedar Creek Kennels. Starting in October, Dex will be training with his new partner, Officer Andrew Eagle.

A private donation and a partnership with the Rock Island County State’s Attorney’s Office funded bringing a second K-9 to the Rock Island Police Department for the first time since 2018.

Baby Jane Doe was found abandoned in Washington, D.C., on March 20, 1998. She would now be 28, according to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). As of today, seven missing children from Washington, D.C. are listed with the NCMEC, and the oldest case dates back to 1961. Notably, not all missing children are reported to the NCMEC, but they should be.

Animal Protection Center of Southeastern Massachusetts in Brockton has shared an urgent, hopeful plea for two tiny brothers who have already endured more than most dogs should. In a recent post, the shelter introduced Tico and Rocky, 1-year-old Chihuahua siblings searching for what the organization describes as a “very special home”, one willing to welcome them together and give them the time and gentleness they need to feel safe.

“How Has NO ONE Applied?”: Little Mandy Is Still Waiting for Someone to Choose Her
Forever Paws Animal Shelter in Fall River, Massachusetts, says it can’t understand why a small senior dog named Mandy has drawn no interest, posting an emotional plea that begins, “How has NO ONE applied for this girl?! Not a single application, phone call, nothing. What? How? WHY?” The shelter describes Mandy as an affectionate “velcro pup” who “will glue herself to you and never leave,” adding that while she enjoys walks “at a brisk dawdle,” she’d “much rather be in your lap or curled up next to you, as long as she’s touching you somehow.”
