Cat dies in Clinton fire

A cat is dead after a fire in Clinton yesterday morning, according to a news release from the Clinton Fire Department.
Firefighters were dispatched to the 500 block of 1st Avenue on Sept. 23 at about 9 a.m. for a report of a structure fire. They responded with a ladder truck, two engines, two ambulances and a command vehicle and nine firefighters. The Camanche Fire Department was dispatched for automatic aid with a Rapid Intervention Team (RIT). Clinton Public Works provided barricades and Alliant Energy secured the utilities.
When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from second-floor windows. The initial fire attack was conducted from the exterior of the structure, followed by interior operations. The fire was brought under control within 10 minutes, but crews stayed on scene for about an hour, extinguishing hot spots.
One cat died as a result of the fire. No other injuries were reported. Clinton County Communications, the Clinton Police Department, the Camanche Fire Department, Clinton Public Works and Alliant Energy provided assistance during the incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
