Two QCA colleges earn national recognition
By Linda Cook,
13 hours agoTwo Quad Cities-area colleges are making their mark in the latest U. S. News and World Report rankings.
St. Ambrose University in Davenport is ranked number two in the Midwest for innovation among regional universities. And it ranks 17th for best colleges for veterans and 32nd overall among regional universities.
St. Ambrose says its focus on innovation includes a new core curriculum, experiential learning and responsible use of artificial intelligence in the classroom.
Monmouth is ranked number two for best value. The rankings consider factors including student outcomes, peer assessments and faculty resources.
Monmouth ranks 15th among the region's top private colleges. Monmouth says its new Scots Pledge could make tuition more affordable for qualifying Illinois students by covering the full cost of tuition through financial aid.

7 Rural Southern Church-Supper Dishes Still Worth Making
I use AI to help draft these articles. Every recipe and every fact in them is checked before publishing. A Midwestern potluck and a rural Southern church supper look similar from a distance: long folding tables, covered dishes, somebody's mother's dessert at the end of the line. Get closer and the resemblance fades fast. In much of the rural South, food was organized by type and the dessert table stood apart, treated almost as its own room. Brunswick Stew came in a cast iron pot the size of a washtub, tended by men who had been at the fire since before the service started. Cornbread baked in the church kitchen and got cut into squares before it hit the table. Banana Pudding traveled layered in a glass bowl, not a pan, because presentation on that table was its own kind of statement.
