The Eldridge Police Department has achieved accreditation through the Iowa Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ILEAP). This is the first accreditation in the history of the Eldridge Police Department.

Accreditation through ILEAP shows a significant commitment to professional law enforcement, accountability, continuous improvement and adherence to recognized best practices.

The accreditation process meant the Eldridge Police Department voluntarily opened its operations to an independent outside review. Evaluators examined the department's policies, procedures, practices, documentation, training and overall operations to ensure the department could show it was meeting established professional standards and following recognized best practices. The process gave the department an opportunity to evaluate its existing practices, identify areas for continued improvement and develop a framework for maintaining high professional standards in the future.

"Accreditation is about much more than receiving a certificate or recognition," said Chief Andrew Lellig. "We voluntarily opened our department to an outside perspective and allowed trained evaluators to take a close look at how we operate. That process requires confidence, professionalism and a willingness to accept constructive criticism, identify areas for improvement and prove, not simply say, that we are doing things the right way."

"I could not be more proud of the men and women of the Eldridge Police Department. Our officers and civilian employees demonstrated tremendous professionalism and dedication throughout this process. I am equally proud of our supervisors and the leadership they provide every day."

Lellig praised Officer Garrett Jahns, the department's Accreditation Manager, for his role in completing the accreditation process. "Garrett did an outstanding job leading this effort. His attention to detail, organization, persistence, and commitment were critical to our success.”

"Our community can be assured that the men and women of the Eldridge Police Department take their responsibility seriously," Lellig said. "Accreditation demonstrates our commitment to accountability, continuous improvement and following recognized best practices every day. This is an accomplishment that belongs to our entire department and I am extremely proud of what our officers and supervisors have accomplished."

The accreditation award will be presented to the Eldridge Police Department at a future Eldridge City Council meeting. The department will also be recognized during the Iowa Police Chiefs Association Annual Conference in May 2027.
