Scott County Health Department: Now is the time to get your flu vaccine

Flu season is about ready to ramp up, so the Scott County Health Department is getting the word out: Now is the time to get vaccinated. Health officials say anyone ages six months and older, and people 65 and older, should get their flu shots.

There's a higher dose for that age group, offering extra protection.

The health department says it takes about two weeks for your body to build immunity after a flu shot. This is the best time to get vaccinated, and with the holiday seasons coming up, the best protection certainly is that vaccine.

Additionally, the health department reminds people that if they are sick, they should stay home. And remember to wash your hands.

The Scott County Health Department also offers the RSV and COVID vaccines. Those at higher risk can call to schedule an appointment at 563-326-8618.
