State grants available for Illinois fire departments
By Brian Weckerly,
18 hours agoApplications are now being accepted for Illinois fire departments to receive grants to help pay for small tools and equipment they may not be able to afford.
The Small Equipment Grant Program is available for fire departments and not-for-profit ambulance services in Illinois. A total of $6 million in funding will be available for eligible fire departments and EMS services. Previously, almost $6 million was issued to 264 fire departments, fire protection districts and EMS providers across Illinois.
“Fire departments and ambulance services are vital parts of our communities, assisting residents when they need it most,” Senator Mike Halpin said. “This grant program ensures that they are able to help as many people as possible, with the correct tools to do so.”
Fire departments and ambulance services must submit applications with the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal here.

The One Crispy Apple I'm Choosing Over Honeycrisp Right Now
Learn about an apple variety that is super crisp and firm that I am getting at apple orchards over Honeycrisp this month. It took a long time from when the Crimson Crisp apple was first bred until it was available to be grown commercially. It was first developed in the 1970s by the PRI (Purdue, Rutgers, and Illnois) co-operative. It wasn't until 2006 that the apple was released for growers. That is a long time in the development process. You don't get rich quick by developing a new apple variety!
