Two varieties of Grace canned chicken sausages sold in five states are the subject of a federal public health alert -- and shoppers are being urged to check their pantries. The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service issued the alert on October 6 after discovering that the products were illegally imported from Jamaica, which is not eligible to export meat or poultry products to the United States.

7 Herbs Used for Back Pain Before Muscle Relaxers Existed

Long before muscle relaxers, people reached for plants when their backs ached. I looked at what a Cochrane review of herbal medicine for low back pain actually found, and a few of these have more research behind them than you’d expect. 😊

This Herb Was Used for Bad Breath Before Mouthwash Existed

Parsley has been a go to for bad breath for generations, long before mouthwash existed, chewing on a sprig after a meal is a genuinely old habit. Lab research backs up part of the folklore too, parsley has been shown to neutralize the sulfur compounds behind bad breath. 😊

This Custard Pie Magically Forms Its Own Crust

Magic crust custard pie earns its name by accomplishing something that feels almost impossible: a simple batter separates as it bakes, creating a delicate crust and creamy custard center without rolling or fitting pastry dough. The top becomes lightly golden while the inside stays soft, smooth, and gently sweet. Nutmeg or vanilla gives the filling its familiar old-fashioned aroma, and the thin crust provides just enough structure to hold a clean slice. It is an ideal dessert for anyone who loves homemade pie but would happily skip the most intimidating part of preparing one.

Three-Ingredient Lemon Bars Turn Almost No Prep Into Bright, Sweet, Melt-in-Your-Mouth Dessert Squar

These three-ingredient lemon bars prove you don’t need a long shopping list to make something that tastes sunny, sweet, and completely dessert-worthy. Each square delivers bright lemon flavor with a soft, tender texture and just enough sweetness to balance that citrusy tang. A light dusting of powdered sugar can make the tops look bakery-ready, while the centers stay moist and luscious underneath. They’re the kind of simple lemon treat that tastes especially good chilled, when that fresh citrus flavor becomes even brighter and every little square feels like a cool burst of sweetness.

What Happens When Yogurt Gets Watery? The Liquid Usually Isn’t Spoilage

You peel back the lid of a yogurt container and find a puddle sitting on top. Before you pour the whole thing down the drain, there is a common explanation worth knowing. In dairy yogurt, that liquid is usually separated whey. A small amount on the surface does not, by itself, mean your yogurt has spoiled.

This Sandwich Actually Gets Better While You Wait

Most sandwiches punish you for making them too early. This Italian sandwich has other plans. Give those layers of savory deli meats, cheese, tangy toppings, and bold Italian flavors some time together and everything starts settling into the bread in the best possible way. Each slice gets a little salty, a little tangy, a little rich, with enough texture to keep you coming back for another piece. It’s the rare party food where making it ahead isn’t a compromise—it may be the reason the sandwich tastes so good when everyone finally arrives.

The frosting you'll want on every cake this holiday season

If you're going to spend the holidays baking, you might as well have one frosting recipe you can count on for everything. This one comes together with just four ingredients and five minutes of mixing, no candy thermometer, no cooking on the stove. It's rich, tangy, and holds its shape well enough to pipe onto cupcakes or spread thick over a layer cake.

Southern Hoecakes Bring Crispy Cornmeal Comfort to the Skillet

Southern hoecakes transform a short list of cornmeal-based ingredients into thin, golden rounds with crisp edges and warm, tender centers. Cooking them directly in a skillet gives every cake the browned surface that separates them from oven-baked cornbread. Their flavor is simple and comforting, which allows them to work equally well with savory meals and sweet breakfast toppings. Fresh from the pan, they have the rustic texture that makes traditional recipes endure.

Your Freezer Has Been Waiting for This Pizza

Homemade pizza becomes much more practical when the dough is prepared with the freezer in mind. One mixing session can create several future dinners, giving you fresh crust without beginning from flour every time a pizza craving appears. The dough bakes into a chewy center with crisp edges and can support sauce, cheese, vegetables, and favorite meats. It delivers the flexibility of homemade pizza with the convenience normally associated with frozen food.

The Five Types of Apples I'm Buying Instead of Granny Smith for Baking

Discover five different varieties of apples you should seek out this fall as I find them to be better than Granny Smith for baking. Granny Smith apples are the default apple for a lot of people for baking. They are a tart apple that holds its shape very well when baked. The apples are available at pretty much every grocery store. And they are one of the least expensive apple varieties.

The One Crispy Apple I'm Choosing Over Honeycrisp Right Now

Learn about an apple variety that is super crisp and firm that I am getting at apple orchards over Honeycrisp this month. It took a long time from when the Crimson Crisp apple was first bred until it was available to be grown commercially. It was first developed in the 1970s by the PRI (Purdue, Rutgers, and Illnois) co-operative. It wasn't until 2006 that the apple was released for growers. That is a long time in the development process. You don't get rich quick by developing a new apple variety!

This Fish Dinner Found Its Crunch in 20 Minutes

Crispy lemon herb fish develops a golden exterior while keeping the center moist, flaky, and delicate. Lemon brightens the mild seafood, while garlic and herbs season the coating without hiding the fish beneath excessive sauce. The combination tastes fresh and satisfying, offering the crunch of fried fish with a preparation fast enough for an ordinary weekday. In less than twenty minutes, dinner can move from refrigerator to plate.

The old-fashioned cream cheese pound cake everyone asks about

Butter alone can't give a pound cake this velvety crumb. Cream cheese is the difference, and it keeps every slice from falling apart. Butter and cream cheese are beaten together until fluffy, which gives the cake a dense, moist crumb without any baking soda or baking powder. It is rich but not overly sweet, so it needs no glaze. I like a slice plain with a cup of tea.
